New portrait work to start 2009
So I started out 2009 in a somewhat different direction: portraits. I have done some portraits before, but not a lot. So when I got a commission for this piece, I jumped on it. The reference photo was black and white, so I did the painting in a slightly sepia tone. The drawing is the underdrawing to show how it started out. Then the final version is filled in. I put this in a dark brown, almost black frame, that really pulls out the faces and warms up the black tones.
