Here’s the second of the Italian pieces framed. Again, my friends at Stonebridge Gallery did the design and made the frame for my client. The presentation is really good, and makes the painting look fantastic. Again, my client loves them both, so it’s all good. jcannon1@bellsouth.net
Okay, the photo is poor: I was at a strange angle at Stonebridge when I took the photo. I thought it would be good to show how the piece looked when matted at framed. The great folks at Stonebridge Gallery came up with a great presentation for the piece, as you can see. My client loved them, so that’s all good. jcannon1@bellsouth.net
One of my dear students lost her little pup on Monday, and I lost my Buddy on Friday. So I enlisted the help of other students and secretly got a reference photo of her little friend, Maggie. I did a painting of Maggie and we presented it to her Monday. She was so moved by the painting. Now my friend has a memory to help with the loss of her baby. This has been a pretty rewarding week, all in all. jcannon1@bellsouth.net
Here’s the final version of the young lady’s portrait. I completed all the details and the hair. I focused primarily on making her look very three dimensional. It doesn’t show up that well in the photo, but the real portrait does have a lot of depth to her features. I’m enjoying doing the portraits a lot, and look forward to doing more. jcannon1@bellsouth.net
So here’s one of the reasons I paint. I did a portrait for my friend, and she was very excited with it. I truly enjoyed seeing her excitement over the painting. This is such a great reward for doing what I do. jcannon1@bellsouth.net
Thought I would share the plug The Row @ The Factory got in this month’s edition of Southern Living. This is, of course, a well known and respected magazine, and it mentions The Row as a place to visit. I, naturally, agree. Come out and see us, except not this evening. The Row will not be open for the Art Scene tonight, due to shows and other obligations. Come out soon, though, and enjoy the art. jcannon1@bellsouth.net
Here’s the second stage on the new portrait. I’ve added more depth to the shadows and such. I’ve also blended around more so there are no visible hard lines on the face planes. So far she’s coming along well. Now the challenge is to not overdo it. jcannon1@bellsouth.net
Here’s the first block in on a new portrait. I’ve already got the planes of the face pretty well defined. The eyes are fairly done, too. Now on to filling out the tones and softening everything. More as this develops. Also, I will not be at the First Friday event this month at the Factory. The rest of the Franklin downtown artists will be open, so enjoy. jcannon1@bellsouth.net
So here’s the finished paining of the little goldfish. I added a dark background, that looks black but isn’t. It’s got a lot of dark, dark green in it, so it looks more like being underwater. The darkness helps the fish look bright and pop. I’ll get this little guy in a frame and have him (her?) ready to go. jcannon1@bellsouth.net
So here’s the next to last stage on the little goldfish. All the detail on the fish is basically done. This has become much more detailed since the first draft. Now comes the background. Tomorrow the final version will be ready to post. jcannon1@bellsouth.net
