Well, here it is, hanging in it’s new home. As you can see, it adds quite a bit to what was a huge blank wall at Burger Up in Franklin. Now, when you walk in and are waiting to be seated, you can see the bar back on the wall. If you are at the bar, it seems that the bar goes on to infinity. It looks really neat in the space, and the management loves it. I’m so glad to be able to add something to these spaces. I’m very thankful for the opportunity to do this. jcannon1@bellsouth.net
Here’s the second in my BLT (beagle, lettuce and tomato) series I’m doing for the Tomato Art Festival and Frankie’s Friends. The plan is to sell prints at the Tomato Art Festival to benefit Frankie’s Friends, and to see the originals as well. I’ve got some other pet/tomato ideas I’ll be working on, but I wanted to go ahead and get this series done and out there to start the buzz. jcannon1@bellsouth.net
So here’s the sketch my client liked for the big piece. I added more purples and changed it from a hill range to a forest. There is more mystery in this one, and the shapes are all abstract enough that there is virtually no detail to anything, yet you know what it is. Going with the bright moonlight adds to that sense of atmosphere. I’ve got the canvas ready to go; just need to get in there and do it. More as this develops. jcannon1@bellsouth.net
I have a client who wanted a large, somewhat abstract landscape piece. So to get the ideas down, I did a couple of color sketches. Here’s the first one I did and presented to my client. She liked this one, but the colors were not quite right. Tomorrow, I’ll show you the one we settled on. In the meantime, I like this one and may mount and frame it for sale. jcannon1@bellsouth.net
I’ve made a lot of progress on this piece. The infinite regression now makes more sense. The idea know should be visible. If you are at the bar, you look down at the real bar and see it repeating in the painting to infinity. I think this is going to work out pretty well. I’m going to spend today trying to get this one finished so I can move on to other projects. jcannon1@bellsouth.net
As you may have noticed, I did not post the last couple of days. Of course, you could not get on the site either, so you may not have noticed. Evidently, there was a problem with Earthlink, and the site was unavailable. Sorry about that. I’m looking into alternatives since this has happened before. Anyway, here’s the start of a new, giant piece for a restaurant in Franklin. The painting will be of the bar and will hang at the end, so that you see the bar in the painting. Then there’s a painting of the bar in the painting of the bar, and so on, to give an infinite repeating effect. The painting is 4′ by 6′, so it’s quite large. I’m working on it all the time, so more as this develops next week. jcannon1@bellsouth.net
I had posted the early stages of this one, back when the tongue was an issue. We decided to eliminate the tongue and just focus on her beautiful face. So here’s the final version. I had to make up the right side of her mouth, but I think it looks pretty realistic. Anyway, this one is off to it’s home, and now on to other projects. Remember, keep an artist busy and you keep them off the streets. jcannon1@bellsouth.net
After consultation with my client, I changed the color of the house to reflect it’s usual color, white. Now the painting looks like the house did when my client’s mom was young. It’s on it’s way to them via a certain shipping service. (No ads here but the folks at FedEx really went crazy over the painting while they were packing it.) Hopefully, mom will like it, too. jcannon1@bellsouth.net
My clients were so kind to send me photos of the painting as hung in their beautiful home. The piece looks great in it’s frame and in the space. The painting now graces their dining room and adds a lot to the space. This is part of what art can do: define you and your home. The other part is that everyday you have something beautiful and meaningful to look at and enjoy. It’s all about quality of life. jcannon1@bellsouth.net
Sometimes I get so focused on my paintings that I forget to mention my classes. I teach at my studio on Wednesday evenings and twice on Saturday. Here’s my student last night with her completed painting. Her FIRST EVER painting! She really enjoyed the process and had such fun creating the piece. The painting also turned out quite well. If you’ve ever wanted to paint but were afraid to try, I’ve got the solution. Contact me to schedule a class. jcannon1@bellsouth.net
