The First Friday Franklin Art Tour is upon us again. This Friday from 6 to 9 we will be open for the tour, with light refreshments and good art. I know this is the beginning of school for many, and the sales tax holiday, but come on out and enjoy some art and have a little fun to relax. See you Friday night. jcannon1@bellsouth.net
Here’s the early stages of another sweet little pup. He’s pretty dark, but with that neat little white patch around the nose. He’s also very furry, so there will be a little more texture added as I finish this guy out. Such a sweet expression. jcannon1@bellsouth.net
I’ve been cranking out tomatoes, but I also have been working on pet portraits. This one is of a cute little cat, Lucy. This is in the early stages of the painting. I’ve got the eyes more or less done, and the fur clocked in. Now I’ll work on more details around the nose, do the soft color in the ears, and then get the final touches like whiskers. Then the background and she’ll be done. This one will also benefit Frankie’s Friends, so it will be good for Lucy’s person and for other pets. jcannon1@bellsouth.net
Here’s the next to last of the small tomato pieces. These two are quite small, about 6×6. This photo does not do it justice. The tomato is much richer in color. Both these and the one tomorrow will be framed and ready for a nice decoration. Remember, mark your calendar for August 11th and the Tomato Art Festival at Five Points in East Nashville. jcannon1@bellsouth.net
Here’s another little piece for the Tomato Art Festival. This one is a little hot pepper. These pieces are small, by the way. This one is basically a 5×7. I’ll have it in a nice floater frame. Again, these are designed to be kitchen decorations and will be at a very attractive price at the Tomato Art Festival. This will be a chance to get some cool original art at affordable prices. So mark your calendar for August 11. jcannon1@bellsouth.net
I had done one of the “poured” tomato pieces a bit back, and here’s another. The weather around Nashville this summer has been horrible; record high heat and now heat and humidity. So this one is “Hot Tomatoes (I’m Melting! I’m Melting!).” They are all blending together as if they were just too hot. I’ve felt that way a few mornings on the bicycle, so I empathize. The Tomato Art Festival is August 11 at Five Points in East Nashville. Make plans to come out and have a bit of whacky fun. jcannon1@bellsouth.net
Here’s how the finished bell pepper piece came out. It’s mounted in a nice floater frame, like “Tomatoes on the Vine.” The presentation is really nice, and it will make a great kitchen piece. There are a few more tomato pieces to post, then I’ve got some pet portraits and other stuff on the table. Going to be busy for the next few weeks. jcannon1@bellsouth.net
So here’s how we mounted the bell pepper. It’s raised about 1/4 inch off the deep purple mat. The color of the mat is the complement of the color of the pepper, so it really pops the pepper. (Say that three times real fast.) Anyway, now I’ll cut and build the floater frame for it, and it will be ready to go to the Tomato Art Festival. These are really fun and would make great kitchen decorations. jcannon1@bellsouth.net
The Tomato Art Festival is coming up August 11, so I’m in the final stages of preparing pieces for the show. I’ve already posted the completed tomato pieces. I’ve got a couple more that are drying. I also realized there is a category known as “Other Fruits and Vegetables,” so I thought I would do something different. The bell pepper is basically finished as a painting. I will cut it out like the “Tomatoes on the Vine” piece and mount in 3D. I think it will look really cool. I should have the final version in a day or two. jcannon1@bellsouth.net
Here’s the start of the portrait of my new daughter-in-law. I’ve just got the basic colors blocked in. She was so happy at the wedding; I’ve got to get that across in the painting. More as this one develops. jcannon1@bellsouth.net
