2012 April

So here’s the next to last stage on the little goldfish.  All the detail on the fish is basically done.  This has become much more detailed since the first draft.  Now comes the background.  Tomorrow the final version will be ready to post.  jcannon1@bellsouth.net

I got a lot of comments yesterday on the Facebook post that I should have left the goldfish in the first block in stage.  Of course, I take these photos as I work on it, so the posts don’t reflect what I’ve actually done.  Now I kind of wish I had left it.  However, you’ll see that I went much further on the details.  Let me know what you think.  jcannon1@bellsouth.net

It occurred to me the other day that I had never painted a fish.  So, here’s the first block in on a goldfish.  This is rough, but I kind of like it.  Stay tuned to see how this develops.  jcannon1@bellsouth.net

Here’s the other piece I did from the Maui vacation photos.  This is of the sunset, obviously.  This one also has quite a bit of texture in the water, which gives it a great wave feeling.  My client loved them, so that’s a good thing.  jcannon1@bellsouth.net

Here’s a piece I did for the American Heart Association’s Go Red For Women Luncheon this Friday at the Marriott in Franklin.  I’m donating a certificate for a commission piece, and also donating the proceeds from this piece.  The American Heart Association is a great organization and deserves our support.  Check out the luncheon and anything else you can do for the AHA.  jcannon1@bellsouth.net

Here’s a little piece I did for a client.  This is from a photo they sent me of their trip to Maui.  I made it a little more interesting than the photo.  I also added quite a bit of texture, so the rocks have a real three dimensional effect.  It’s pretty neat and they like it a lot.  Remember, I can turn your vacation photos into a painting as well.  jcannon1@bellsouth.net

Here’s the final version of “Red Pears.”  I mounted the piece in a floater frame, which is a little different.  This is on illustration board, and I mounted it on stretcher bars to put it in the frame.  The board comes out like a floating edge, so it’s a very simple but dramatic presentation.  And the painting looks really cool, too.  Hopefully, this will be a help to the Boys and Girls Club.  jcannon1@bellsouth.net

I don’t usually put this sort of thing into my daily post, but I thought I would for these guys.  I do classes as well, and these folks wanted to do a family one time class.  So grandmother, mother, and the two kids all painted a little pear still life.  Everyone did quite well and their paintings turned out great.  Keep this in mind for a good family outing.  jcannon1@bellsouth.net

Here’s the second stage on the new still life.  I’ve added in a surface and a back wall, as well as the grounding cast shadows on the surface.  This is not actually finished.  I need to adjust a few things here and there, and finalize the pears.  This piece is going to be donated to the Boys and Girls Club for a fund raiser coming up April 26.  Hopefully, it will help a good organization.  jcannon1@bellsouth.net

I had so much fun with the iris that I thought I would stay with the still life subjects for a while.  This is the first stage of three red pears.  The pears are basically done.  Now I need to add the background and do some final detail touches.  This one is small, 8×10, and I’ll see about a good presentation for this one.  jcannon1@bellsouth.net
