2012 March
I got to spend a little time on this one yesterday. Right now I’m focused on making the top of the front facade look accurate and soft in the uplight. That part is really sketchy and a little tough, but it’s coming together finally. I should get much more done today and maybe work on something else as well. jcannon1@bellsouth.net
The second of the Italian pieces is now done. I went in and detailed the buildings and such. I added a few more touches into the ocean, and basically cleaned up all the loose ends. Now it looks really nice, and the two pieces go well together. Now on to my other projects. jcannon1@bellsouth.net
I thought it would be nice to show the final framed version of this painting. We put it in a nice mat and frame. The final presentation looks quite good. I still like this painting a lot, and it looks fabulous framed. jcannon1@bellsouth.net
Here’s a new abstract that’s quite cool and has an interesting story. I built a little tray board with short sides, and was going to try a couple of experiments with pouring medium and some stuff. I poured the paints and blended them on Saturday afternoon, then went home for the weekend. I had balanced the painting on top of my storage rack to dry. On Sunday, I had this sudden thought about the painting falling. Sure enough, on Monday, I found it on the floor. The lower part had slid onto the floor. I was able to get that up, and then when I laid that part in the painting, it stuck. So this piece totally painted itself! It’s very cool and has unique textures. My issue now is how to I do this again on purpose? jcannon1@bellsouth.net
I got to work on the rocks and the ocean last week. They are pretty much done. Now on to the buildings and a few touchups and this one will be done. jcannon1@bellsouth.net
I had a big class yesterday and did not get much time to work on paintings, but I did get the color in the marquee on the theatre. There is still more to do to make the lights glow, but the basics are there. More as this one develops. jcannon1@bellsouth.net
On top of everything else, I’ve started a new Franklin Theatre piece. This one is a horizontal from the other direction. The first one was a hit with First Farmers Bank, so I’m doing another. Right now only the darks are in. I’ll start refining the colors and add the neon later. More as this develops. jcannon1@bellsouth.net
I think I mentioned that there were two Italian pieces I’m working on. The first one is finished, as I posted Monday. Here’s the fairly early stage of the second one. This is another Cinque Terra village, though a bit more mountainous. Now that I’ve got the first colors in, I’ll be working on the details. More as this develops. jcannon1@bellsouth.net
Here’s a little portrait I did in between working on the Italian pieces. This little girl is so cute, I tried very hard to capture that. I think it’s pretty good, and her mother likes it, so that’s good, too. I’m getting the hang of these portraits. jcannon1@bellsouth.net
This one is done. I added more details on the water and the boats. I also detailed out the cat and the ropes. This looks really good live. It’s pretty big, and will look very impressive when we get it in the mats and under glass. jcannon1@bellsouth.net
