2012 January
Here’s the second stage on the new sunset piece. I’ve got the sky mostly done. It is really a good sky; one of my best, and that’s something I’m known for. Now on to the water, trees and such. More as I get to work on this. jcannon1@bellsouth.net
To balance out working on the portraits, I also started on this landscape piece. The inspiration is a sunset I caught from Shelby Bottoms one evening in December while cycling on the greenway. There will eventually be a railroad bridge in the piece, as well as lots of overhanging branches. This is just the first couple of wash layers. More as this develops. jcannon1@bellsouth.net
Here’s the next stage on the child portrait. I’ve got the gown at least blocked in, as well as her legs and shoes. Next step is blocking in the background and then making sure everything is in the right place. Making progress. jcannon1@bellsouth.net
Here’s the first stages of getting color on the baby portrait. I’ve worked on the face and hands. She is starting to take form. Still a lot to go, so track the progress over the next few days. jcannon1@bellsouth.net
Well, I’m back to the portraits. I got another commission to do a child, so here’s the drawing. She’s really cute, so that makes it easier. Now on to the color. More this week as this one develops. jcannon1@bellsouth.net
This was an interesting project. One of my good clients wanted to have a seascape on a pair of armorie doors for her Florida condo. So I painted one of my tropical sunsets on the doors for her. It turned out pretty well and should make for an interesting furniture piece. May be a whole new niche for me. jcannon1@bellsouth.net
Thought I would start out the week with the final version on these guys. I added more details and deepened the colors and shadows. Their people picked it up Saturday and were very happy with the painting, so that’s all good. Now on to other projects. jcannon1@bellsouth.net
And here’s the final of the three portraits. The folks do look dimensional, which is what I wanted. I also made them much younger than in the reference photo. In any event, they are all finished, and hopefully, the folks will like them. We’ll see about that. jcannon1@bellsouth.net
Well, these guys are finished. I think they turned out fairly well. I was working from a less than stellar photo, so I had to do a lot of experimentation to get them close to right. Hopefully, they’ll like it when they see the real thing. jcannon1@bellsouth.net
These guys are almost done. There are more details to straighten up and some stuff. They are finally coming around. The faces look much more formed on the painting, and the features are pretty much right. Should have the final version in a couple of days. jcannon1@bellsouth.net
