2011 November
Here’s the early stage on a new piece. It’s of a couple of young people and their dog at the lake. This is just the early stage, of course, but you can see how the piece is going to go. More as this develops. jcannon1@bellsouth.net
Here’s an interesting little piece I did a week or so ago. It’s an abstracted fall tree. It’s hard to see from the photo but the colors are very fluid and swirly. I had it framed nicely as well. Apparently, it was a hit, since it lasted barely twenty four hours! I’ll try to do some more of these when I get my Christmas commissions done. jcannon1@bellsouth.net
Hope everyone had a nice Thanksgiving holiday. Here’s the finished portrait on Charlie. I polished up the details on him, then added the background. He turned out fairly well. Now on to the other projects on the easel. Remember, if you want a pet portrait for Christmas, the deadline is rapidly approaching. jcannon1@bellsouth.net
Here’s the start of a new pet portrait, Charlie. I’ve gotten the first couple of layers on, and a few details around his eyes. Next stage is to finish out the coat, then work on the last details of the eyes and nose. So far, he’s coming along pretty good. More as this develops. Also, I’ll be taking off tomorrow for Thanksgiving, so see you back on Friday. Have a great Thanksgiving. jcannon1@bellsouth.net
Here’s a little number I worked up as a demonstration for my class at Studio G in Hendersonville. This was to demonstrate complimentary color underpainting. That means that the first layer of color was the compliment of the final color. So the apples were green, the grapes red, the pear red and so on. Then the subsequent layers of color glaze over that and the end result is a luminous piece. Seems like a lot of work, but it’s worth it. This is just a demonstration piece and isn’t finished, but it looks pretty cool. jcannon1@bellsouth.net
While I liked the first version of the log cabin, I thought I would use a more traditional paper and try a slightly different approach and see how that worked. This is a little more like a traditional watercolor, and is pretty nice. I’m not sure which one is better. My client is supposed to come by today, and hopefully she will like one of them. jcannon1@bellsouth.net
Here’s the final version of the Lake George piece. I polished up all the details and finished out the trees. It has a good light on it and a nice soft feel. I’m pretty pleased with it. jcannon1@bellsouth.net
Here’s an update on the log house painting I was working on. I think it may be done. I’ll have to let it settle a couple of days and look at it with fresh eyes. It’s a little different look for me, but I like it. jcannon1@bellsouth.net
Here’s the finished painting of the house whose name is “Headgates.” I cleaned up a bunch of the details, added the fire hydrant, and finished the trees in the background. I think it turned out quite well. I’ve got a nice frame for it, and now we’ll see if the recipient, who grew up there, will like it when he gets it for his 90th birthday. I really enjoyed doing this one, and hope he likes it. jcannon1@bellsouth.net
I had posted the early stages of this some time back. Then I got involved in other projects and did not get a chance to work on it. I did get back to it yesterday, and here’s the latest. I think the sky and water are done. The dock is close, and all I need is some details on that and to finish out the trees. This one should be completed by the end of the week, so stay tuned. jcannon1@bellsouth.net
