Here’s another reminder that this weekend is the Christ the King School Art Show and Sale. The event runs tonight from 6 to 9 p.m., Saturday noon to 8 p.m. and Sunday 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. This is a great opportunity to come out, see some great art and help a good cause. I will be bringing more traditional pieces this year, as well as a couple of abstracts, so you should find something that strikes you. Come on out; Christ the King is on Belmont Blvd. in Nashville, and have fun. jcannon1@bellsouth.net
A few weeks ago we lost a friend. Larry Wilks was a great guy and terrific lawyer in Springfield who we had known for many years. He died suddenly at 57. The photo on the program showed him out in the fields of his family farm. I wanted to turn that into a painting as a tribute. Here’s the first layer of colors on the piece. More as this develops. Don’t forget about Christ the King Show this weekend. jcannon1@bellsouth.net
It’s that time again: The Christ the King School Celebration of Art. This show benefits the school. They just built a nice new gym, so I’m sure the benefit will be a big event. The opening reception is Friday evening, then the show runs from noon to 8 on Saturday and 9:30 to 3 on Sunday. So come out and see my art and the other stuff there (notice the subtle put down?) and have some fun and help a good cause. jcannon1@bellsouth.net
Here’s the start of another new landscape using the technique I’ve developed. These take several layers, but the effect is very much worth it. The sky on this one is about done. Now I’ll work on the foreground. I’m thinking a field of lavender and wildflowers. Any thoughts? jcannon1@bellsouth.net
I got a lot more done on the big piece. Now there are flowers on the balcony and the birds are more detailed. I still need to finish out the flowers and do a few more things. I think the big palm tree may be too small. But it’s getting close to the end. Probably later this week this will be done. Stay tuned. jcannon1@bellsouth.net
Here’s the next day’s progress on the big commission piece. The palm trees are in, both foreground and background. The column and the rails are sharpened up and look good. All that’s left is the flowers on the balcony and lots and lots of little details. Should get this one done by early next week. Stay tuned for the final. jcannon1@bellsouth.net
Here’s the next stage in the big commission piece. I’ve got the sky done, and it looks really good. I took out the mountains and made it more of a sand bar. There will be more palm trees on it now. The next stage will adjust the values on the column, add the palm trees and finish out the railings. Then on to the flowers and final details. Stay tuned. jcannon1@bellsouth.net
Here’s the first block in on a new commission piece. This is a big one: 54×36. It will be a tropical sunset with palm trees and macaws and such. The view is from the balcony of a colonial house, looking out to the sea. So this is the beginning and the basic structure. More as this develops. jcannon1@bellsouth.net
Here’s the final on the last landscape I did for Art & Invention in East Nashville. This one is a nice field of poppies, with a nice soft sky. This is a good size, 16×20, and should go pretty quickly. Contact me this week or go to Art & Invention this weekend. jcannon1@bellsouth.net
Here’s another little demonstration piece I did for my Hendersonville class. The issue was how to paint clear glass, so I set up a bowl with some fruit in it and tried to capture the sense of the glass. This was about a 15 minute demonstration, so it was really quick. I think it turned out nice and was a good way to show them how to do glass. jcannon1@bellsouth.net
