2011 May
Hope everyone had a good Memorial Day holiday. I did, despite the heat. I decided we needed a good momento of this season, since the event will not occur again until 2024. So here’s Carl the Cicada. He is a very cute little bugger. I did a little 8×10 of him, and it sold the next day. I do still have note cards, and can do prints, so you need to get this guy to remember a real seasonal event. Note cards are $5 each or 3 for $10. Contact me via email and I’ll get them to you. jcannon1@bellsouth.net
One week from today is ArtFusion 2011. This is a really big event for the Arts Council of Williamson County and for The Row at the Factory. There will be over 70 artists, food, wine, music and no admission charge. Of course, you will want to take home some original local art, but hey, that’s okay. Be sure to mark your calendars and come on out to the Factory at Franklin for this event. jcannon1@bellsouth.net
Here’s the start on a new piece that features the Factory watertower. It’s going to be mostly about the sky. This one is a 20×30, so it’s a decent but not too big size. More as this one develops. Stay tuned, since it will be a multi-stage process. jcannon1@bellsouth.net
Here’s a little drawing I did for my friends at Artisan Guitar. This is a father son portrait, and we gave it to them at a graduation party. Pretty cool. I enjoy doing these pencil pieces. jcannon1@bellsouth.net
Here’s the final version of the portrait. I added more detail in her face and neck, and modified the dress a little. I put a little more of her character in with the details. I conferred with her granddaughter to get the eye color right. My clients were quite pleased, so that was a good thing. No on to other projects. jcannon1@bellsouth.net
Here’s an intermediate stage on a new commission portrait. I’ve got to add some more details to her, and then she’ll be done. More as this progresses. jcannon1@bellsouth.net
Two weeks from today is the opening reception for Art Fusion 2011. I know there are a lot of activities scheduled that day, but this is a must attend. Over 70 artists, food, wine, music, and all free. Plan now to attend. And remember, the event will go on Saturday with the art and music, so plan on coming out that weekend to see and buy original local art to brighten your world. jcannon1@bellsouth.net
Here’s the final on the large Franklin Theatre piece. This is a 24×36 and the plan is to feature it during the June 3rd ArtFusion event, which is also the night of the grand opening of the newly renovated Franklin Theatre. Of course, someone could get this before then. I should have it in the frame by this weekend. Contact me for pricing and sale. jcannon1@bellsouth.net
I finally got a chance to go back and finish this portrait. I got the hair in and tweaked a couple of things. My model gets freaked everytime she sees it. She says it’s like looking in a mirror. Contact me about these. They are affordable and make a great present for someone. jcannon1@bellsouth.net
Here’s a unique gift idea I did for a client. His friend, whose name is Perkins, just got his doctorate degree. So he came up with the idea of using a Dr. Pepper can to memorialize his achievement. I put in the date of his dissertation defense, as well as the three drops from the can to represent the trinity. This is something Dr. Perkins can keep to remind him of his accomplishment. It was also fun to paint. jcannon1@bellsouth.net
