2011 April

A new commission piece is now in the works, so next week will probably be all about that.  So here’s one you’ve already seen.  This is one of the pieces with the recessed gallery wrap style.  The recessed gallery wrap is getting a lot of attention.  These look great and would look great in your home, too.  jcannon1@bellsouth.net

Here’s the final on the Factory watertower piece.  I added the sky and the vegatation at the base, and touched up a few details.  This one turned out quite well.  Again, this will make a great piece for those interested in the Franklin area and Franklin history.  jcannon1@bellsouth.net

Here’s a reminder about the bicycle paintings.  This one is at Eastside Cycles in East Nashville.  For those cyclists out there, I can do paintings of you and your bike.  Just contact me for details.  jcannon1@bellsouth.net

Here’s the start of a new painting of The Factory watertower.  This is an icon of Franklin, standing above the Factory, where my studio gallery is located.  I’ve got the tower mostly finished.  Now, I’ll add the sky (one of my signature skies) and get it out there for someone to buy.  I’m going to be doing a lot of Franklin sites, so stay tuned.  jcannon1@bellsouth.net

I finally got to get back to this one and finish it.  I called it “On The Road” since it’s, well, on the road.  Anyway, this is one with the recessed gallery wrap.   A very cool effect, I think.  I like the kind of lonesome look on this one.  It’s a 24×24, so a decent size but not too large.  Come by and see it or contact me for purchase.  jcannon1@bellsouth.net

So here is the final version.  I cleaned up a few details on the house, including making the porch a bit deeper.  I also cleaned up the fence so it looks more finished.  I think it turned out pretty well.  Thanks for putting up with this all week.  Hopefully, it was interesting to see it from inception to finish.  jcannon1@bellsouth.net

I thought I might get this finished yesterday, but not quite.  I decided the sky was a little strong, so I toned down the upper right portion to make it transition more smoothly.  I’ve gone back and adjusted the edges and highlights on the house.  Now, all that needs to be done is to finish the fence.  I should get that done today with no problem, so tomorrow will be the final version.  Really.  Seriously.  jcannon1@bellsouth.net

Here’s the third stage on the Carnton Plantation painting.  I’ve got the trees and sky blocked in.  The painting is really starting to take shape.  Now, it’s the final details and adjustments, and this one will be done.  jcannon1@bellsouth.net

Here’s the second stage on the Carnton Plantation painting.  The house is pretty well blocked in, as well as the picket fence.  The trunks of the trees are indicated, along with the left side horizon line.  Note that the shadow of the tree is already on the side of the  house.  It looks really strange having the shadow there but no tree.  It will make more sense after the tree gets in.  jcannon1@bellsouth.net

This may be a little hard to see.  These kind of pencil drawings don’t photograph that well.  Anyway, this is the drawing of Carnton Plantation, an antebellum home in Franklin that was at the center of the Battle of Franklin during the Civil War.  This is a commission piece for a client.  I’ll be going through the stages this of the painting this week, so stay tuned.  jcannon1@bellsouth.net
