These photos of this piece are just not doing it justice.  The sky is close to being done, and it looks really awesome in person.  I’m going to get going on the reflections next.  I also need to find a better lighting so you can really see what this looks like.  More as it progresses.  jcannon1@bellsouth.net

Here’s a detail on the sunset piece.  This is basically the upper right corner.  I worked on this quite a bit yesterday, and it’s starting to look pretty good.  Today I should be able to do the other corner and then move on to the water and foreground.  This one is starting to get me excited.  jcannon1@bellsouth.net

Here’s another practice portrait.  She looks pretty much just like the model.  I’m still not totally satisfied with these, so I’m still working on them.  jcannon1@bellsouth.net

As I mentioned earlier, I have a new commission piece to do for a client.  Here’s the early stages of this piece.  It’s a sunset on the lake.  I was fortunate to get a great sunset at their house.  Now, I’ve just got to capture that on the canvas.  This one is quite large, 48×60, so it’s going to be very impressive when done.  More on this as it progresses.  jcannon1@bellsouth.net

Since this is a practice piece, this one is done.  I would normally add a background, but won’t bother since this was just a learning experience.  You can see that there are more brush strokes and less blending, so it’s looser and a little more “impressionistic.”  Better than the hyper-detailed work I was trying to do.  More practice on these, though.  jcannon1@bellsouth.net

So I got a chance to work on this portrait some more.  This is an interim stage, but it looks pretty good.  I totally changed the approach and am leaving brush marks and not trying to be quite so detailed and precise.  The look is much better.  More as this develops. jcannon1@bellsouth.net

I don’t know why I am semi-obessed with portraiture.  It really isn’t something I do natrually.  So I guess that’s why I’m so determined to get it right.  Anyway, this is the drawing for a practice portrait of one of my students.  I’m starting on a new big landscape today for a client, so it may be awhile before I get back to this.  More as it develops.  jcannon1@bellsouth.net

Finally, I got the chance to finish this piece.  I called it “Tenderness,” since this is really more about the posture and position of the penguins.  I think it is a very endearing piece.  It’s a 16×20, so a decent size.  I’ll get a nice frame for it, and it will make a great addition to some home.  jcannon1@bellsouth.net

I’ve posted this before, but since I taught all day yesterday, there is nothing new, yet.  Hopefully, today will get me a chance to finish something and get some new pieces out.  Anyway, this is a big landscape, 48×48, and although it’s hard to see in the photo, there is a lot of texture in the ground portion of the landscape.  It has a soft feel, overall, and makes quite an impression.  Come see me about this one for a centerpiece of your home or office.  jcannon1@bellsouth.net

Okay, you’ve seen this guy before.  Turns out I have a bunch of sweethearts in my Monday night class, and they all wanted to be with their sweethearts on Valentine’s Day.  So I got the day off.  Ernie the Elephant is one of my “fun” animals, and he’s still with me.  He needs a home, so contact me to take him home for your child or your inner child.  Hope you had a good Valentine’s Day.  jcannon1@bellsouth.net
