2010 July
Here’s another piece I have for sale at the studio. It’s a nice knife painting of flowers, with lots of texture and color. It’s a 24 x24, so it’s a good size and makes a nice statement. Come by and take it home. jcannon1@bellsouth.net
Yesterday was a good day, but not for painting. I had meetings all day, so I did not get to finish the skyscape. And I’m out of the studio today on business, so it will be Friday before I can get back to that. I was reminded that I never actually put up the final version of the water lily, so here it is. Turned out pretty well. I need to get it in a frame. I’ll see about that tomorrow. jcannon1@bellsouth.net
Sorry about yesterday’s post. I had modem problems which AT&T couldn’t fix, then suddenly did. So hopefully it’s good to go for a while. Here’s an update on the stromy sunset piece that I started a few days ago. I got to work on this quite a bit and it’s nearing completion. Still more I want to do, though. Not quite getting the effect of that evening like I want. So I’ll keep working on it. More later. jcannon1@bellsouth.net
Here’s the last of the pieces for the Tomato Art Fest coming up on August 14. This one is “Hot Tomato” or “I’m Melting, I’m Melting.” The tomatoes are flowing into each other and into themselves. It’s a really cool effect. The background is very textured and the tomatoes are very smooth and glossy. This is a 24×36, so it’s a good size for over a sofa or fireplace. This, and the other two tomato pieces, are going to Art & Invention Gallery in East Nashville this week, and will be there for the Tomato Art Fest. More on that later. jcannon1@bellsouth.net
Yesterday was busy with students and some preparation work, so I did not get anything finished to the stage of posting. Here’s a floral I did a while back (and still have) called “Out of the Shadows.” This one emphasizes the flower getting lost in the dark background. It has a very dimensional effect. Some one needs to take this one home. It would add beauty and a little mystery to you world. jcannon1@bellsouth.net
We went to Cheekwood last Friday to see the Chihuly glass exhibit, and while the glass was truly amazing, the thing that got my attention was the increadible sunset. There were storms in the area that had passed, and the sunset was lit with pink and orange light, with lots of thick clouds. Thanks to my friend Cindy, I got some good photos of the sunset and started on a piece to try and capture that light. So far, it’s a good start. More as this develops. jcannon1@bellsouth.net
Here’s a new piece I just finished. It’s titled “In the Garden.” It is a little hard to see from the photo, but there are these amazing swirls that look like flowers, and stems. The background is very swirly and mixed. The look is amazing. You could see things it there for years to come. This one is also pretty big, a 24×48, so it makes quite a statement. This one is for someone who wants drama in their lives. Come by and see it. jcannon1@bellsouth.net
Here’s the final on the Florence piece. Or maybe the final. I might actually redo this in a different style. Looser and more impressionistic. Not sure yet. This one is okay, though. I think. I’ll see what the client thinks before the final call. jcannon1@bellsouth.net
Here’s a new abstract I’ve been working on. So far, this one does not have a title. It’a a 24×36, so it’s a pretty good size. Again, the new technique I’ve been working on is used, and the piece has a good bit of texture. Very striking look. Help me give it a name. jcannon1@bellsouth.net
Here’s the completed base painting. This now has color on the whole piece. The next stage is to get back and do more details and adjust the values (lights and darks) to make the piece more accurate and dramatic. Hope you can see how much work this really is. I hope that this comes out well given the time invested. More as this develops. jcannon1@bellsouth.net
