2010 June
Here’s a new piece I’ve done for the July 3rd Art PM event. This is called “Fourth of July” and expresses the wild energy of a fireworks display. It’s an 18×24, so decent size but not too big. This will be on a special price for the event, and 25% of the proceeds will go to Hands on Nashville to help with the flood relief, which is ongoing. The event is 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. this Saturday, July 3. We will have snacks and refreshments, as well as music by David McKay. Admission is free, so come on out and enjoy. jcannon1@bellsouth.net
This is a painting starting a new thing: vacation paintings. Rather than just come back from vacation with a slideshow to bore your friends with, you can actually have your favorite memory turned into a painting. This really makes for a personal memory that is unique and amazing. Contact me for pricing and to discuss the image. jcannon1@bellsouth.net
Here’s the final on the Five Tomatoes piece. The photo does not do it justice. It turned out quite well. I found out I will be in the Tomato Art Festival, so this piece will be there. I’ve got some others to do as well. More as they develop. jcannon1@bellsouth.net
There’s a big event in East Nashville in August called the Tomato Festival. I’ve never tried to participate, but thought I would at least give it a shot this year. So this is the first of some tomato pieces I’ve started to submit. Don’t know if they’ll get accepted, but they are turning out pretty well so far. Should have this one finished by next week, so more as it develops. jcannon1@bellsouth.net
I did some final tweeking on this one yesterday, so it’s done. This is a 16×20 oil on board. It has a good look and feel to it. I got the sense of the translucence of the petals in several places. All in all, it turned out well. So now I’ve got three magnolias for you, one on watercolor paper, one in acrylic and one in oil. These are really good pieces and would bring you a lot of joy looking at them. Contact me about purchase. jcannon1@bellsouth.net
Here are three little figures I did some time back that will be in the “In the Nude” show this Saturday at Billips Art in East Nashville. These are little 8×10’s, very simple. We may use these as door prizes or for little, inexpensive items. Come by and see them this Saturday evening in East Nashville. jcannon1@bellsouth.net
There is an interesting art event this weekend in East Nashville. First, there is the Art Stroll, which will involve all the galleries in East Nashville. Then there is this specialized show at Billups Art, called “In the Nude.” This show will feature paintings of nudes. Looks like I’ll have a couple of pieces in the show. Could be interesting. There is a $5 entry fee, which is quite reasonable, since there will be live entertainment. Come on out to East Nashville and check out the event. jcannon1@bellsouth.net
I got to work on the magnolia in oil over the weekend. It’s almost done - there are a few more touches I want to make. This has turned out much better than I first thought it would. So now I’ll have the magnolia in three different mediums: watercolor, acrylic and oil. Makes for an interesting display. It would make an even more interesting display for you. jcannon1@bellsouth.net
Okay, so here’s the beginning on the last of the three magnolia paintings that I set out to do. The first was the small watercolor. Then the large acrylic on bristol board (which, by the way, looks absolutely spectacular, especially in the frame). And now here’s one in oil on board. The left side is where the finishing work has been done. It’s going to be pretty good, too, I think. Stay tuned for more updates as this one progresses. jcannon1@bellsouth.net
I wanted to get some work done yesterday, but it just was not one of those days. It does not help that right now Franklin is under a heatwave. It’s almost too hot to do anything. So here’s another small landscape from a little while back. This one has a nice feel, too. So contact me to take this one home. jcannon1@bellsouth.net
