2010 May
So I started a new magnolia piece yesterday. This one is a different reference piece. I had several good photos of the magnolia outside my studio, so this one is different from the others. It’s a 16×20, so it’s a pretty good size. This is just the first rough layers, absent the seed cone (I didn’t have time to block that in) so you’ll get to see how this one develops. Stay tuned. Have a good Memorial Day holiday as well. jcannon1@bellsouth.net
Everyone was nice about the other magnolia pieces, so I’ve started some more. Knocked this one out. It’s a small 8×10 on bristol board in watercolor. Turned out pretty well. I already have a very nice frame for it; just need to get a piece of glass and it’s good to go. Contact me on this one; it won’t last long. jcannon1@bellsouth.net
Here’s the four part piece together. I think it’s about done. There may need to be a little more stuff to connect the pieces better, though they do make a cohesive set already. Again, this photo just does not show up all the little leaves and touches in the paintings. The panels are 24×36, so the whole thing is 8 feet wide and 3 feet tall, plus the distance between the panels. Kind of neat. jcannon1@bellsouth.net
Here’s the last panel on the four part piece. Tomorrow I’ll post the four together. I have added a few more splatters and some touches on them. They actually look pretty cool together. Lots of work, but I think it was worth it. jcannon1@bellsouth.net
Here’s the final version on Titan. His people came and got the painting Saturday and were very pleased. These greyhounds are such sweet dogs. What happens to them is really shameful. Those who participate in the rescue are really wonderful people. I was glad to do this portrait. jcannon1@bellsouth.net
This has been a week with unfortunate things going on, so I have not really been able to work on anything new for the last couple of days. Here’s a magnolia painting I did a little while back. This turned out pretty well, and sold very quickly. I probably need to do some more of these. Great Southern flower, and I think the presentation went well. jcannon1@bellsouth.net
Here’s an update on Titan. I’ve got some color on him and he’s starting to work. I need to get in there and get him finished. May be able to do that today. I have not met him, but by all accounts, he is a really sweet greyhound. Hope to do him justice. jcannon1@bellsouth.net
Here’s a little wild floral piece I did for the May event (which was rained out). It’s a 10×20 in two panels that are hinged together so they can sit on a level surface. It can be folded out and hung as well, but it makes an interesting standing piece. The colors are quite bright on the dark background. Kind of a neat little piece. Come out and see it. jcannon1@bellsouth.net
Here’s the third panel on the four part piece. Again, there is a little more I want to do on this one, but the basic piece is there. I was going to work on the fourth panel yesterday, but I wound up having to replace my printer. Seems like when something breaks, it comes in threes. My car went down, then the printer, so I have one more to go. jcannon1@bellsouth.net
I had posted the first layer of all four of these pieces some time back, and the first panel last week. Here’s the second panel, almost done. I still need to add some more color and sparkle to the piece, but it’s basically done. I’ve got the third panel almost done as well. I’ll probably get the fourth panel working today, so the whole thing may be ready to post by the end of the week. Then we’ll see how the full effect comes off. jcannon1@bellsouth.net
