This is another one you have seen before. “Eruption” is a very textured abstract piece. Again, the photos just don’t do it justice in terms of the texture. The depth of the surface and the colors is really striking. The piece is also about two inches deep on the sides, which are black. It hangs flat against the wall and makes a very striking piece. This one is also 20×24, so it’s a decent size but not too big. Contact me on this one. jcannon1@bellsouth.net
Here’s a repeat on an abstract I did called “Fault Line.” The biggest problem with these photos is that they really don’t show the texture very well. This one has deep fissures in it, with the color at the bottom, and peaks as well. The texture is very cool, and gives it a lot of character. This is the kind of art work you just look at and see different things in every time. It’s a 20×24, and is gallery wrapped and ready to hang. Contact me about this one. jcannon1@bellsouth.net
Tuesday is a teaching day, so no new work. Here is the Student Show invitation again. The artists are really excited about this. I hope everyone can come out to see what they have done, and to take some of the art home. These guys have done so well, and I so honored to be part of the group. jcannon1@bellsouth.net
Here’s a new abstract I just finished. Well, almost finished. I got the first layer of the top glaze on yesterday, and I want to add a few more “stars” and glaze it again. Otherwise, it’s finished. I looked at it this morning and thought it was the birth of a star or galazy, then realized it could be the soul birthing as well. Hence, the title. This one is a 24×36, and is gallery wrapped so it won’t go in a frame. I’ll probably put this in the Aloft Hotel show, unless someone makes me an offer I can’t refuse before then. jcannon1@bellsouth.net
Here’s an invitation to a reception and art show at the Factory in Franklin. I have been so honored to assist many good students to develop their art abilities, and we are showing off 16 of them next month. Sixteen of my students will have work hanging at the Factory all month, and we are having an Opening Reception on Friday, March 5, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. There will be entertainment, wine and light foods, as well as some really nice art. The other artists at The Row @ The Factory will also be participating, so there will be alot to see and do. Come on out and enjoy. jcannon1@bellsouth.net
Here’s the other new abstract piece I finished for the upcoming Aloft Hotel show. This one is another forest type scene, but abstracted and very textureed. It’s hard to see in the photo, but there is a lot of texture in the main tree, and all that texture has color picked up in it. So the piece is very interesting to look and, and to touch. That’s something I’ve noticed about this new technique: everyone wants to touch them. Kind of cool. Sort of a combination of painting and sculture. This one’s a 20×24, so it’s a pretty decent size but not too large. Come by and see it. jcannon1@bellsouth.net
Here’s one of those new pieces I told you I had started on. This is a four part piece, designed to have a little space between each part. The parts are 12×16, so the end piece is 24×32, a little larger when hung because of the spaces between the pieces. I think this is about done, although I may add a little more splatter into the trees. This is going to the Aloft Hotel show next month, unless you take it home first. jcannon1@bellsouth.net
Since everybody is longing for the beach, I thought I would put another warm piece up. This is an old one that I sold several years ago, but still has a nice feel to it. This was actually from a photo I took at Destin, so now I think back on the experience, and wish I was there, too. Enjoy. jcannon1@bellsouth.net
One of my Facebook friends pointed out yesterday that she would rather see a tropical scene than the snow scene, which, when you think about it, made a lot of sense. So here is a tropical sunset piece I did sometime back for a customer. It’s pretty warm and inviting, so enjoy on another cold, snowy day. jcannon1@bellsouth.net
I was able to get started on several pieces over the weekend, but nothing is finished yet. So, here is one I did a while back, though I still have it, that seems perfect for another snowy day. “Silver Creek” is a pretty big snowscene piece, about 30×40 vertical. It’s framed and would look very good above a fireplace. Come by and see it at the Factory in Franklin. jcannon1@bellsouth.net
