2010 January
I finally got a chance to work on this again. I had posted it in the early stages a few days back. Now it’s close to being done. I’m still not satisfied with the mountains, so there may be more tweaking on them before I sign it and call it done. The water and the boats are good, and the sky was always good, so that’s nice. A little more work before I say “done.” This one is a 24×36, so it’s a decent size. It will be for sale when finished, so stay tuned. jcannon1@bellsouth.net
You may recall I posted the first stage of this one a few days ago. I finally got the chance to go back and finish this. It turned out well, with lots of light and texture. There is still some of the soft background feel, and more detail in the foreground as well. The final finish is very glossy and textured. This technique is one I like and will do more. This one is a 12×16 and is ready to take home. Come see it. jcannon1@bellsouth.net
We had a great time this Monday night and Tuesday morning doing portrait work with a live model at the Westhaven class. The students, who had never done a portrait before, got to work with a face model to develop a good drawing, then started putting paint on canvas for a color oil portrait. They really had a good time. Next week, we’ll work to get the portrait finished. I will probably put up some of their work as we get this finished. jcannon1@bellsouth.net
I did get to work on Reno yesterday, and made some progress. The body is coming along. I still need more detail in the face and to finish the background. Still, he’s starting to look pretty good. Hopefully, the client will think so as well. More as this develops during the week. jcannon1@bellsouth.net
Here’s the first stage of a new pet portrait. This is Reno, a rotweiller. I got the initial paint block in done on Friday, but did not get a chance to work on him Saturday. Unless it snows me out, I’ll work on shaping up the details today and see how it goes. More as this one progresses. jcannon1@bellsouth.net
Here is the rough first stage of a new landscape piece. This is a really loose watercolor landscape. Now, this will be layered with texture and more details. I should be able to have more on this by Monday. Check back to see how this one comes out. jcannon1@bellsouth.net
It’s been a busy couple of days, what with teaching and getting ready for this morning’s workshop on Skies at Studio G in Hendersonville. So nothing new. Here is an older piece that is long gone to a collector, but remains one of my favorites. “Morning Star” is of two of my dear friends on the beach in Florida one early dawn a few years ago. I really caught something in this piece, and it still moves me when I see it. Hope you enjoy. jcannon1@bellsouth.net
Here’s the finished version of the little watercolor landscape piece I posted Monday. I added the wildflowers at the foreground and corrected a couple of things. This one is a 12×16. I want to get it matted and framed so it will be available, or you can purchase it unframed and do that on your own. Just contact me for the pricing options. jcannon1@bellsouth.net
You may recall that I did a three piece set using these same boats for a client. That went well, so I was doing a solid piece kind of as a test piece while that one was working. I got back to the test piece, and it is in progress. I still have a ways to go on this one, but it should turn out well, just like the big piece. More as this develops. jcannon1@bellsouth.net
I’ve had a lot of stuff going on this week, including getting back to the teaching and getting ready for a workshop on “Skies” this Thursday at Studio G in Hendersonville. So I’ve only got works in progress. This one is a watercolor landscape I started. I still have several things to do on this one, so be patient. I might get to finish this today, if I get all the other stuff done. It is good to be busy, though. jcannon1@bellsouth.net
