2009 October
Well, yesterday I posted a portrait of one of my cats, so my dogs complained. Here’s a portrait of Sweetie, the smaller of my two dogs - she’s only 60 pounds. She is such a sweetheart. She’s very camera shy, so it took my a long time to catch her unawares to get the reference photo. This is an acrylic on board, and catches that curiosity that she has. If interested in pet portraits, contact me. jcannon1@bellsouth.net
This is a portrait of one of my cats, Tippy. She is white, as you can see, and has one blue eye and one green eye. She is a very sweet cat. This is a portrait of her I did a while back. It’s acrylic on canvas, and looks really nice. I have so many people drawn to this one in the studio. It’s not for sale, but I use it as an example of pet portraits I can do for you. So if you have a pet you want painted, contact me for size and pricing. jcannon1@bellsouth.net
This is actually an older piece, and it was sitting back on the storage shelf. I’ve had several people comment on how much they like it, so I’ve put it out on the floor. This is an interesting size, 12×24 horizontal. So it would make an interesting statement in a room. Come by and see it. jcannon1@bellsouth.net
Here’s a new acrylic landscape painting called “Haybales.” This is another one of the acrylic landscapes using some of the new techniques I’ve been learning. This one has a very realistic feel to it. This is a 16×20, and I will frame this one and offer it for sale. Contact me for pricing and delivery. jcannon1@bellsouth.net
I had posted this piece in progress a while back, now here is the finished version. I took quite a bit of time adding details to the leaves and petals to make it more realistic. I think it turned out pretty well. This is a large piece, 24×30, so it is pretty impressive. It will be framed in a nice molding with a linen liner. Since it is acrylic on illustration board, it will go under glass. This will make a nice Christmas decoration for my client. jcannon1@bellsouth.net
I’ve been playing with this one for a couple of days, and think it’s finished. There is a lot of texture on this one that does not show up in the photo. I did it all with a painting knife and lots of paint, so there is texture as well as the brilliant colors. I called it “Profusion” because there is so much of everything going on in the painting, just like in life. This one is also fairly big, 24×36, so it makes a good statement. Price is $350 ready to hang. Come out and take it home. jcannon1@bellsouth.net
Okay, I got a chance to paint yesterday, and did this new acrylic landscape. I had just done a workshop on using acrylics to create “traditional” landscapes with acrylic that have the same look as oils, so I tried it out. Seems like it works really well. This is a small piece, 12×16, but has a good look and feel. More of these may be coming soon. jcannon1@bellsouth.net
This is kind of like Letterman reruns. I’ve posted this before, but since I’ve not been able to do any new work, here it is again. Still one of my favorite florals. I’m puzzled why no one has taken this one home. Oh, well, life is a mystery, after all. jcannon1@bellsouth.net
What with the workshops and the Christ the King School show, which was all weekend, I’ve not been able to do any new work. So, here is what I still consider my “signature” piece. It’s called “The Arrival” and I don’t know what, if anything, it means. I woke up with the image in my head one morning, and managed to get it on canvas. I think it’s pretty cool. It’s fairly big, 24×36, and very intriging. Come by and see it. It’s only $325, unframed. jcannon1@bellsouth.net
I had the pleasure last Thursday evening of leading a workshop to do a painting in one evening for folks who (mostly) had never painted before. We supplied the canvases, paints, and supplies; they supplied the fun. This was a really neat experience for me, and, I think, for them. I took them step by step through the process of creating a neat floral painting with lots of texture and color. Their works turned out really well. We may do another soon with brushes. jcannon1@bellsouth.net
