2009 September

As I may have mentioned before, Tuesday is a teaching day, so I have not yet been able to return to work on the new abstract that I posted yesterday.  Consequently, here is an figure painting I did several years ago.  This one was bought by a good friend of mine, which makes me glad.  The title is “Alone” and that’s pretty much the message of the body language.  This is a powerful piece.  I need to do another figure soon.  jcannon1@bellsouth.net

I finally got to work on this new piece after all the remodeling.  This is still in progress, but is starting to get interesting.  There is a lot more detail to do on the rings, which ultimately will be kind of like a tube.  The interior light will be stronger, as well.  More as this develops.  jcannon1@bellsouth.net

Here’s a photo of an abstract that’s been kind of sitting in the back corner of the studio.  It’s now on the front wall after the remodel.  The title is “Disconnect” and you can see in the upper quadrant where the tubular forms separate.  This is a big piece, 24×48, and is very powerful.  This work would look great in a modern setting, and really makes a statement.  Price is $450.  Contact me about this artwork.  jcannon1@bellsouth.net

I’ve mentioned this week that I was remodeling the studio.  Here is the new look.  I’ve increased the gallery space and moved my work area into the back more, so the mess is less obvious.  I also changed the color on the walls so it is now much lighter and brighter, and the pieces look much nicer on the walls.  I am very pleased with the new look.  The art looks more like it would in your home now.  Come by and see the new look.  I’m in the studio Wednsday through Saturday in the afternoon, or other times by appointment.  615-496-1259.  jcannon1@bellsouth.net

Here’s a new abstract I just finished on commission.  This is one of the wild ones, with lots of color, movement and texture.  You can’t see the texture in this photo.  The brilliant copper paint does not show up quite as well, either, so the title makes more sense when you see the original.  This is a big piece, 48×48, and makes quite a statement.  My client is coming in on the weekend, so hopefully he will like it, too.  jcannon1@bellsouth.net

Here’s the final on the oil version of the Harlinsdale Barn piece.  I added the horse to this one.  Now there are two versions of the barn for the Heritage Foundation Ball, and the weathervane piece.  Hopefully, these will bring a good price and help the Foundation’s fund raising efforts at the Ball this Saturday.  jcannon1@bellsouth.net

Here’s a figure piece I did a while back called “In the Light.”  This is a small piece, 11×14, and has a really good feel to it.  The light on the figure is nice and creates a very warm feeling.  I still have this one, and it would make a great piece for dark corner.  jcannon1@bellsouth.net

I’ve been really busy with the student show and the teaching lately, as well as those pieces for the Heritage Ball, so I’ve not got any new work, yet.  I should have a new big piece ready to show tomorrow.  So in the meantime, here is the canna acrylic that I posted a while back.  This was also in my ad on the Factory page in yesterday’s Tennessean, so I thought it would be good to show it today.  jcannon1@bellsouth.net

I have the great honor of teaching two classes in oil painting at Westhaven in Franklin.  Last night, we had a student art show at Westhaven.  We had some amazing art by wonderful students, and a really good attendance.  This was the first show for all the students, and their work was amazing.  I am really honored to be able to help these artists express themselves.  jcannon1@bellsouth.net

Here’s the final on the acrylic version of the Harlinsdale Barn painting.  I cropped it down some, and got a nice molding to frame it in.  I think it turned out pretty good.  The detail on the weathervane is nice, and the shadowing is pretty good, too.  Now I need to finish the oil piece and all of these will be down.  jcannon1@bellsouth.net
