I had posted versions of this before. This is the final version to be submitted to the Salvation Army. Not sure how it will be received. I think I want to do something else for them. Just not sure what, yet. Anyway, I do want to support the Salvation Army. It is a great organization and does wonderful work. jcannon1@bellsouth.net
Back to art, now that the Toast of Music City contest is over. I won’t know the results for some time, but will post them when I know (unless, of course, I didn’t place). Anyway, here is the drawing for a piece for the Savannah Tea Company, a restaurant in Germantown in Nashville. They have just moved into this lovely antebellum house, and I’m doing this piece for their upcoming grand opening. Hopefully, it will be worthy of hanging in the dining room. More as the piece develops. jcannon1@bellsouth.net
Yes, it is the last day for this contest. I appreciate all the support you have given me in this. So this is the last time I’ll be posting this request for votes. Please vote today from all the computers you can find, and tell your friends to vote, too. Thanks again, and next week we’ll be back to art. jcannon1@bellsouth.net Oh, the link. Go to www.toastofmusiccity.com and click on “People & Places” and then “Best Local Artist (Visual)” and click on the star by my name to vote. Thanks again.
Down to the last two days of voting in the Toast of Music City awards. So please vote today. You can vote from any computer, once a day, so get all your friends and all your computers on and vote. The link is www.toastofmusiccity.com and go to “People and Places” and then click on “Best Local Artist (Visual)” and click on the star by my name and vote. Thanks for your support.
Here is a detail on the piece I posted the drawing for sometime back. This is an intermediate stage. I’ll have the finished version by the end of the month, since this will be part of the Salvation Army publications. This scene is the “Doughnut Girl” helping with food services for the less fortunate. This is a service the SA has been doing for decades. More on the painting as it develops. jcannon1@bellsouth.net
I hae posted the drawing for this piece before. I had started it, but it wasn’t right, so this is actually the second version. It’s not done yet; there is more detail to add to the foreground and the figures, so don’t judge too harshly. I do think I’ve gotten the tree, mostly, and the background. I should get to finish this tomorrow, so I’ll post the final version later. Don’t forget to vote on the Toast of Music City award. Friday is the last day, so vote everyday until then. Thanks. jcannon1@bellsouth.net
Here is the final version of the fruit for the complementary color underpainting workshop coming up this weekend. Again, the workshop will be Sunday, June 28 at 1:30 at Monthaven in Hendersonville. The pubilc is invited, and the workshop is free. So come on out. In the meantime, I think this piece turned out pretty good. There is a luminosity to the fruit that comes from the underpainting and the layers, which is really cool. When the workshop is over, this will be framed and on sale. jcannon1@bellsouth.net
Okay, I did do another layer on the fruit last night, but it’s still drying, so the final version will be some time next week. In the meantime, this is the last week for the Toast of Music City thing, so please remember to vote for me everyday for this last week. I would like to repeat as Best Local Artist (Visual). So your help would be appreciated. Please tell all your friends to vote as well. Pass this along to everyone. Thanks for your support. jcannon1@bellsouth.net
Here are the seventh and eighth layers on the still life. These two are somewhat similar. The eigthth is more of an attempt to get the highlights in. As you can see, these are working more and more toward a finished, realistic look. The final version will be up very soon. jcannon1@bellsouth.net
Okay, here are the fifth and sixth layers in the painting. Notice how each layer gets a little richer and a little closer to the final colors. The aspect these photos don’t show well is how lumious the objects are getting with each layer. There are still areas of the complementary underpainting showing, which is why there is depth and lumiosity. The offfical invite for the workshop came out today, so if interested, check out www.monthavenartsociety.org. More later. jcannon1@bellsouth.net
