Here’s a new little watercolor piece I did last week. The tomatoes ripening on the table looked pretty to me, and I think I got a good sense on them. I’m working on the watercolors again, and this time I’m going to figure them out. So there will be more of them later. Stay tuned. jcannon1@bellsouth.net
In addition to the little wine bottle piece I did for the Jeans & Jewels Event for the Junior Auxiliary (posted last Friday) I did this piece pretty much “live.” That is to say, I finished it live during the event, and it was then auctioned as a fundraiser. Interesting way to do things. I actually had some people watching me, so that was good. I realized that as I got into it, I really didn’t notice anyone around. Anyway, it was for a good cause, and hopefully the JA will get some benefit from my efforts. jcannon1@bellsouth.net
I had posted the drawing for this recently. Now it’s done and framed. This is a piece that is in the silent auction for the Junior Auxillary “Jeans & Jewels” event Saturday night at the Factory in Franklin. This is a fund raiser for the JA, which works with several charities, such as Shoes to Souls. We have the real bottle, autograhped by Kix Brooks, to sell as well as this painting of the bottle. Check out the JA site and come out to the event. I will also be doing another painting live that will be auctioned off, so it might be fun. P.S. - there will be other entertainment besides me, thank goodness! jcannon1@bellsouth.net
Here is a stage in a portrait I worked on. This one is on watercolor paper and has a soft watercolor feel. Of course, this is just a rough draft. However, sometimes that works as well as the final detailed version. I’ve got to practice more with being loose on the watercolor stuff. I did get a sketch done yesterday to start on an new one today, so I should have something new for tomorrow. Stay tuned. jcannon1@bellsouth.net
I put up the drawing for this piece a few days back. Now the first coat is on. The photo doesn’t do justice to the wings. I think I got them good the first time. Now I want to polish out the figure some and add some drapery or something. And do more with the background, of course. Anyway, she is turning out to be quite interesting. More as I get a chance to work on her. jcannon1@bellsouth.net
No, you’re not seeing double. I had a request for two of these pieces to memorialize a photo from the Holy Land. So I created these two in 16×20. They are similar, but not quite the same, which is why you do original art. You just can’t mass produce original art. So now these pieces will be framed and make excellent keepsakes for the people involved. Consider that for your memories. jcannon1@bellsouth.net
Here is a piece I did for my friends at Artisan Guitar. This is a set of bungalows in Oceanside, that are truly oceanside. An aunt managed them at one point, and so there was a family connection. I appreciate Ellie, Bill and W.T. They are good folks and have amazing guitars at their store. So I was pleased to be able to help them get art that has a family meaning. Enjoy. jcannon1@bellsouth.net
I did get a chance to work on this yesteray, and here is the new approach I was thinking about. A figure, but not the full blown romantic figure I have been doing. Instead, it’s a suggested figure using the shape, not the form of the figure. There is a little suggestion of form, but not much. I may work with this just a little more today or tomorrow, but this is basically the approach. I kind of like it. Let’s see how the public reacts. jcannon1@bellsouth.net
The last 36 hours have not been particularly fun. I don’t recommend the flu or whatever it is to anyone. The good news appears to be that it’s “breaking up.” That’s a euphemism for coughing my head off. So, sorry about the whining. I just hate being sick. Anyway, here is a drawing for a figure. I have a request for figures that are not really nudes. That is, more of the figure and less of the form. I may be able to go to the studio today and work on this. Have to see how the morning goes. More later. jcannon1@bellsouth.net
I had posted that other angel piece I did a few weeks ago. Here is a drawing I did on a 12×24 canvas for another shot at the angel. There will be a more spiritual final with the paint and all. A little more like I think angels should look. I want to get to these this week, but I don’t know. Looks like I’ve come down with the flu, so the rest of the week may be iffy. More later. jcannon1@bellsouth.net
