Here is an abstract piece that is currently on display in The Frisky Berry coffee shop at the Factory in Franklin. This piece has a lot of nice elements in it, from the soft background to the sharpe lines. It also has texture from things like sea salt and other items. Very nice piece. It is in a floater frame which highlights the piece and is very contemporary. It’s pretty big: 24×36. Come by the Frisky Berry and take a look at it, and get some good coffee. jcannon1@bellsouth.net
I thought I would close out the week with another set of figures. These are Three Nudes I did for a show at the now defunct Madison Art Center. There had been a bit of a policy against nudes there, so I did these partly as a rebellion. Sometimes I do things like that. The end product is a pretty nice trio of figures. Each is 8×10 and can be separated, but were meant to be a trio. The original working title was “See no evil, hear no evil, speak on evil.” So that was the idea behind the poses. Anyway, these are still available. They are presently out of the frames, but can be reframed if interested. I will be back in the studio next week from Tuesday afternoon to Saturday, so come by. jcannon1@bellsouth.net
Here is a new piece that I’ve started on. This is a large commission piece, 30×40 for a client. This is the second layer on the figure and background. There are a couple of layers to go to get the effect I want. I should be back working on this next week, and hopefully will get it finished. I’ll keep you posted. jcannon1@bellsouth.net
Sorry I’m late with this today. I have computer problems and had to get the thing cleaned out. Sometimes they are more trouble than it’s worth. Then I had to remove spam from my comments. I don’t know why these people try to post these things on my site. I moderate any and all comments and they just won’t get through. Anyway, this is the final version of the figure that I’ve shown you before. I think I got the softness that I wanted, and the tones are good. This is an odd size, 10×20, and I have a great frame for it. It will be priced at $295, which is a steal considering the quality and the time put in. I am technically off this week, but if you are interested, just contact me. I will be back in the studio next week. jcannon1@bellsouth.net
Here’s the final version on the second of the matching Italian house paintings. This one is a little cleaner, and more colorful, what with the extra flowers and all. Both these pieces turned out quite well, and will look very good with matching frames. These are going to be part of the redecorating of my client’s house. Even in these interesting times, new art gives a totally different look to the same space, with good investment value. Consider that for a Christmas present. jcannon1@bellsouth.net
Here is the final version of that Tuscan scene painting I am doing for a client. I’ve got more foreground flowers going and put lots of distance in the background with the complementary grays. The piece looks really nice now. I did not notice until I was preparing this to post that there is a shadow on the right side of the piece. The original does not have that, and I will retake this photo for the archive. This is a nice piece and the size is 24×48, so it will go well in the living room over a sofa. If you are interested in having something similar done for your home, contact me. jcannon1@bellsouth.net
A little reminder about tonight’s “For the Love of Art and Chocolate” event at the Factory in Franklin. We will have chocolate samples and light refreshments and, well, art. There will also be entertainment from Jack Grant. All the artists are particpating, so there will be a lot more to see than just my work. Come on out and have some fun. The Factory in Franklin is located at 230 Franklin Road. See you tonight from 6 to 9. jcannon1@bellsouth.net
Here is another Italian house painting I am working on. This is a companion piece to the one I’ve been posting. They will hang together in my client’s house. This post shows the drawing, the complementary color underpainting and the semi final version. I still have more details to add, so this is not done yet. Still, this shows the progress that a painting goes through. By now, I am thinking this will work fine and will be a good companion to the other piece. More later. jcannon1@bellsouth.net
I had posted various stages of this painting, from the drawing to the complementary underpainting to the second stage before, and here is the final version. I’ve added a couple of layers of color to the building, added the flowers and toned the shadows at the bottom. All in all, I think this turned out well. The companion piece is also coming along, and I should be able to post something on that tomorrow. Don’t forget the event this Friday night at the Factory in Franklin. jcannon1@bellsouth.net
I am writing this late Monday night because I have a very early appointment Tuesday and probably would not have time to do this in the morning. So this is actually Tuesday’s post. Attached is the invitation to Friday’s event at the Factory. We will be having an art event, and will be honored to have Bethany, a world famous chocolateir at the studio for samples and information. Part of the proceeds of sales will go to Mercy Children’s Clinic. There will be light refreshments and entertainment, as well. So come out and join myself and all the artists at the Row at the Factory in Franklin for a delightful evening this Friday, December 5 from 6-9 p.m. jcannon1@bellsouth.net
