2008 December

It’s New Year’s Eve, the last day of a really tumultuous year. What’s the old saying? “Cursed to live in interesting times.” Seems to be really true of 2008. So I thought I would end the year with a nice little piece, a pleasant seascape. Thanks to all who have followed with me this year. Happy New Year. Let’s make 2009 a really good year for all, and peace to the world. jcannon1@bellsouth.net
Here is another new floral piece I did yesterday, a nice little flower pot. This piece is also soft and bright, combined. This one is smaller, a 12×12 square, and I’ll get that framed for a nice look. I was also really not happy with yesterday’s photo, so I put a new photo on today. I think that looks a lot better. jcannon1@bellsouth.net
Just a couple of more days for a new year. 2008 has been an interesting and sometimes strange year. I’m looking forward to 2009 for a number of reasons, and looking forward to better times. Here is a little piece I did last Saturday. Just a soft vase with bright flowers. Looks pretty good live. It’s a 14×18 and I need to get it framed. Striking, though. Come by and see it at the studio in the Factory at Franklin. I’ll be there today and tomorrow, noon to 5 or so. jcannon1@bellsouth.net
Here is a abstract called “Connection.” I always thought this was a spiritual piece, so I’m putting it in on Christmas Eve. I will be taking a few days off for Christmas, so I want to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and Happy Hanukkah. jcannon1@bellsouth.net
This is a little unusual for me this morning: I’m posting someone else’s work. The story is that one of my students wanted to do a painting for her husband for Christmas. She asked me to help her out, so I did. This is really her first completed painting, and I think she did extremely well. And this is really her painting; I only made suggestions and did a little bit to help. So I am excited for her and expect that this will be a Christmas present her husband will always cherish. jcannon1@bellsouth.net
Here is the “final” version of the church nave painting. I say that with a caveat, since I will surely add a touch or two to the congregation. Otherwise, though, it is pretty much done. It does have a nice feel and looks warmer in the real version. I have a great frame for it, too, so hopefully it will make a good Christmas present. jcannon1@bellsouth.net
Sorry to be so late today. I sense a new computer is in my future, since this one is really acting up. All I got to do yesterday was finish off the figure, finally. I’ve signed it, so it’s done and I can’t touch it again. I think she turned out pretty well. The nave got another layer at the top. It is starting to look good now. I will work on the congregation some today. Got to get to the studio, so more next week. jcannon1@bellsouth.net
Here are the first stages on a new project for a client. This is the nave of a church that has a long history in her family. The first is the drawing, with a coat of thinned gesso on it to tone the canvas and seal the pencil. The second is a partial first layer to get the colors down. I will try and get more done on this to post later. Stay tuned. jcannon1@bellsouth.net
I had posted an earlier version of this figure a while back. This is another commission piece. I think she is almost done, except for a few touch ups here and there. This is a large piece, 30×40, and will grace a room as the decorative focal point. This makes a nice, colorful statement in any room. jcannon1@bellsouth.net
This is something of an “oldie.” “Green Vase” is the title, and you can see why. The contrast of the green vase and the red vase is pretty striking. The background is really abstracted so that the realism of the objects is even more pronounced. This one is actually hanging in an office, but is still available for sale, so if interested, contact me. The size is approximately 12×24, and it is framed nicely. Contact me on pricing. jcannon1@bellsouth.net
