Here is the (pretty much) final version of a large Tuscan piece to go in the model home at Creekstone in Franklin. I may add a few details or highlights as it dries. Otherwise, it is pretty much done and came out pretty well, I think. This is a large piece, 30×40, and will be framed in a really nice Italian distressed wood frame. It should look very good in the beautiful model home, which has a high ceiling and crown molding. This piece will go over the fireplace. It is still drying at the studio, so come by the Factory at Franklin. jcannon1@bellsouth.net
I’ve been looking at the styles I’ve gravitated toward over the years. Seems there are two basic styles: linear and painterly. Linear tends to be more realistic, blended and accurate. That is what I have gone toward. Just look at yesterday’s floral. It is precise and accurate, with lots of blending and no noticeable brushstrokes. This is the way the “old masters” painted. “Painterly” is more loose, open, with brush strokes and little if any blending. So I did this little 5×7 yesterday in a very painterly fashion, just to keep my hand in that style. I do like it and will play with this more in the near future. It’s not that one is better than the other; just different. jcannon1@bellsouth.net
Well, I’m back in business thanks to Julian Bibb and his great folks there at JLB Works, LLC. Software is not really my thing. Fortunately, I have them. Anyway, here is a new floral piece I just did. This one is a low key piece with a lot of depth. The background is very dark, and the flowers go from in the light to the shadows at the back. I like the shadow flowers best. This is a 16×20, acrylic on linen, and is available for $375 framed. Come see it at the studio at the Factory in Franklin. jcannon1@bellsouth.net
Sorry; still can’t get my images to upload to the post. We are working on it and hope to have it solved soon. In the meantime, visit the gallery for some images. Thank you and sorry for the inconvenience. jcannon1@bellsouth.net
I have a new piece to post, but am having computer problems this morning. I’ll try to get in touch with my IT help and figure this out. Later. Sorry about that.
This has not been a good couple of weeks for getting new work done. Other obligations have kept me out of the studio. I will be back today and rolling, I hope. This is a piece I did some time back called “The Surfcaster.” This fellow was fishing in the surf of the Gulf and I got a photo to work from. This came out quite well, I think. This is an oil on board, and is framed in a nice driftwood kind of frame. I have it for sale for $500 framed, and offer 20% off for this week. Come by and see it at the studio. I will be there today 12-5, and tomorrow 12-9 or so for the Wine Tasting event at the Factory. Saturday is 12-6, so come by. Art is a good investment. jcannon1@bellsouth.net
This is a little piece I have called “Unbreallas.” Wonder where I got that title? Anyway, this is a watercolor on a treated board. A little different from paper, of course. This could be framed in a regular frame, not under glass, yet has that kind of loose watercolor look. This is pretty small, a 9×12, and is unframed for $45. I could, of course, add framing if needed. jcannon1@bellsouth.net
I thought I would brag a little about some new press I’ve gotten. I got a good write up in the Nashville Lifestyles Magazine which just came out. I thought I would post a photo of the cover and the two page article I got. It is a really nice article, and I appreciate the magazine including me. If you can check it out, do so. It is a good publication all around and quite well done. jcannon1@bellsouth.net

I did an underpainting for a new piece that is going in the model home at Creekstone in Franklin, but my camera battery died when I went to take the photo. Maybe I should take the charger to the studio. Who would have thought? Anyway, this is an older piece that I still have, “Silver Creek.” Considering the cold morning today, thought it might be time for a winter painting. This is a pretty nice piece, and large, 30×40, with a nice classic frame. Price is $825, plus tax. It is currently a featured piece at my studio, so come by and see it. jcannon1@bellsouth.net
Well, this is the (maybe) final version of the AT&T Building commission piece I have been posting. I say “maybe” because this is a commission piece, and the client may have something they want changed. When I am doing a commission piece, the client has a lot of say in the final product. I mean, I’m not going to do something that I can’t live with artistically, but if the client has some adjustment or something, I will surely do that. Anyway, I think this has come out pretty well. I have painted this building several times, but it is still fun, since it’s such a great piece of architecture. jcannon1@bellsouth.net
