This is another old one - I say old, I guess I did this sometime last year. I did get to work on the new commisison project yesterday, and paid a price for it. Lots of pain. Oh, well, this, too, shall pass. Anyway, one of the reasons for this still life is that my teacher, Marion Cook, always said that everything in the world can be reduced to one of three shapes: circle, triangle and rectangle. So this still life is a way of using the three shapes to create a piece with some life and vibrancy. This is a 16×20, and framed is $395.00. It is at the studio at the Factory in Franklin, so come by and see it. jcannon1@bellsouth.net
I was able to work at the studio yesterday, and got the first layer down on a new abstract commission, so that was good. My back was killing me by the end of the day, but this, too, shall pass. Anyway, this is another older piece that I still have, called “On the Still Sea.” It has a very cool, almost mysterious feel. It’s a 12×16, framed, for $275.00. Come by and see it at the studio at the Factory at Franklin. jcannon1@bellsouth.net
Once again, a trip down memory lane. Although in truth, I still have this piece as well. “Girl in Lavender Hat” is a figure piece/landscape. She is looking away at something; don’t know what. In the background is a sky and landscape. Leaves you wondering about what she is looking at and thinking. This one has a nice soft feel to it, and has a little more color in the original. It’s a 16×20, and is nicely framed for $325.00. Come by and see it at the studio at the Factory in Franklin. I plan on going back to work today, so I’ll be there this afternoon. jcannon1@!bellsouth.net
This is another oldie I still have. “When the News Came” is the title. It’s certainly not a “happy” little piece. It depicts someone at the moment of getting really bad news. We don’t know exactly what the news is, but it shows in the body language and the lighting that this is bad. I wanted this to capture that instant where the impact is so great. Because after that first moment, we all start to back away and build defenses. So this is that instant of true vulnerability. This one is a 16×20, and is available for $375.00, framed. jcannon1@bellsouth.net
Well, back from “vacation.” Not much of a vacation. I spent the whole week trying to recuperate from the crash injuries. Eight broken ribs are really painful. Fortunately, it is getting better. The downside is that I have not touched a brush in two weeks. So I have to get back to work this week, painful ribs or not. This piece is an oldie, but one I still have. Called “Green Vase” it is, quite clearly, a still life. It is narrow and tall, 12×24, with makes a unique presentation. It is framed and ready to hang for $350.00. Hopefully, as the week goes on, I’ll be able to put up really new stuff. Thanks. jcannon1@bellsouth.net
Another oldie, and one I still have. I have not been able to do any art work this week; shoot, I have not even been able to drive. Sorry, sounds like I’m whining. Just frustrated. Anyway, this is a nice little 9×12 landscape that has a good feel. I get comments on it periodically. Someone needs to take it home. Only asking $225, framed. By the way, I am on vacation next week, so may not make any postings. Of course, looks like my vacation will be at home recuperating, so I might, you just never know. Thanks for visiting. jcannon1@bellsouth.net
I’m still pretty much useless. These broken ribs are causing me a lot of pain and restricting my movements greatly. I am not used to being down, so this is taking it’s toll. As a result, I am not able to paint anything new, so this is a trip through memory lane. This piece is a barn in Coopertown, Tennessee, which is in Robertson County. I was hired to do a portrait of a house, and this was the barn. I liked the barn and have painted it several times. This one I still have. It’s a 16×20, and is in a nice barnwood frame (seemed appropriate). Price is $425. Come by and see it. Deborah Gall at Abide Studio is being kind and helping out when someone comes by. Hopefully, I’ll be able to get out in the next few days. jcannon1@bellsouth.net
As I indicated yesterday, I am trying to recover from the crash. The broken ribs are really painful, as are the muscle strains and brusies all over. So I am not driving yet and not going to the studio. As a result, I will be putting up old stuff for a few days. This one is older, called “In the Light.” I still have it, though, so consider it new. It’s an 8×10 and has good light on the model. Price is $225, framed, and it looks really good at the studio. If you come by, Deborah at Abide Studio down the hall can help you. Sorry about the inconvenience. Believe me, I would rather be there then here hurting. jcannon1@bellsouth.net
Regulars may have noticed that I did not post anything yesterday. Long story, but the bottom line is that Sunday morning, out on my regular ride, I was attacked by a vicious dog and thrown from my bicycle, resulting in 8 broken ribs, a concussion, and a bunch of bruises. I spent Sunday night and most of yesterday in Vanderbilt Medical Center, so I did not get to post anything. Sorry about that. This is a piece I worked on last week, and think may be done. Called “Infrastructure” it is something of a statement piece, since the structure looks like a pipeline, which is rusty and has all the hanging threads on it. Sort of where we are in America right now. The colors on the original are much more subtle than on this photo. Size is 24×36, gallery wrapped. Price is $425. It is at the studio, and can be seen, eventhough I am not there and may not be for several days. Call if you are interested. 615-496-1259; jcannon1@bellsouth.net
This has been a week of distractions, so I have not gotten much done. Sometimes, it’s just like that. This is a piece I did last year, called “Cathedral by the Sea.” I have a lot of people ask where it is, and in truth, it’s made up of bits and pieces, so it’s really nowhere, just in my mind. It is a knife painting, which I don’t do that much of, and has lots of texture. It’s also large, 30×40, and is framed in an antique distressed frame. Price is $995.00. Come by and see it at the studio at the Factory in Franklin. jcannon1@bellsouth.net
