2008 April
I wanted to let everyone know what is going on. We had an electrical problem at the house and my hard drive is dying, if not dead. So no pictures, since everything is on there, and until I get that off and on a new one, I am pretty much out of the loop. The hard drive should be repaired by Friday morning, so I should be back on by then. Thanks for your consideration. jcannon1@bellsouth.net

This is a little 5×7 I put down yesterday to take to A Moment’s Peace Spa tonight for the Chamber mixer. This photo doesn’t do it justice, so you need to come out and see it at A Moment’s Peace Spa on Carothers in Cool Springs this evening, 5:30 to 7:00. Should be a good time. jcannon1@bellsouth.net

Okay, you may remember that I posted some in-progress photos of the Grand Canyon piece some time back. Well, that one went south, so I tore it off the stretcher bars and made my students cut it up. (Sounds a little weired, but I wanted them to see that you can’t get attached to a piece.) So I restretched a new canvas and started back again on the canyon, and this is where I am. This one is working pretty well, and should turn out all right. I still have a way to go, but am pretty excited about it. I’ll keep you up as things work. jcannon1@bellsouth.net

I started back again on the Grand Canyon piece yesterday, but didn’t get far enough for photos. So I have here a shot I took during that last snow. I keep wanting to paint this, or use it as a reference, because I love the way the branches shadow on the snow. I guess I’ll work on this eventually. I have so many things I want to paint, and not enough time. Oh, well, at least that keeps me off the streets. jcannon1@bellsouth.net

This is the final version of the “Sunflower” piece I showed the other day. I spent a good bit of time sharpening up the image and increasing the contrasts between the background and the flower. As a result, the flower really “pops” now and looks quite good. This is an 11×14 on linen, and is available. Contact me at jcannon1@bellsouth.net

Sorry there is nothing brand new to tell you about. There is a ribbon cutting today at 10 a.m. at First Farmers & Merchants Bank on Carothers in Cool Springs, and I have pieces up there for the bank. Come by if you get a chance. This piece today is “Across the Fields.” This is one I did a few months ago. Almost square, it’s 26×29, and has a very soft, warm feel. Lots of good comments on it by visitors. It’s $675 framed, in a nice gold beaded frame. Come by and see it. jcannon1@bellsouth.net

I don’t have a new painting to put up this morning. So instead, I have put up a photo I took during that last snow. In Shelby Park in East Nashville there is a train tressle that crosses the Cumberland River. There was still a little snow on the ground, and I got up on the tracks and took several photos. This one has lots of good lines, and you can just see the trestle girders in the background. Notice how the snow shadows are bluish, denotiing cold. This is a piece I will surely paint, so I thought I would show you. jcannon1@bellsouth.net

I thought I would put up two pieces this morning, one of which you have seen, but not in this form, and the intermediate stage of a new floral. The Franklin Square piece has been up before. This is the final version, including the frame. I don’t usually put uf the frames in these postings, but thought this would be nice. This frame seems to really add to the piece. I am happy with the piece anyway, and thought this would look good. The other piece is the intermediate stage of a sunflower based on a photo taken by a talented local photographer, Angela Faye. I have a couple of layers on it, and expect a couple more to make it complete. I’ll put up those stages as they come along. jcannon1@bellsouth.net

Here is the almost done version of the Franklin Square piece. There are a few lines to straighten up and a few highlights to add, but this is mostly it. I think it turned out pretty well. I am going to feature this in a ribbon cutting for F&M Bank on Carothers next week, on April 9 at 10 a.m. Come by and see the bank and the art work. jcannon1@bellsouth.net

This is the sketch for another architectural piece. This is a commission, and will be a present for his family. Members of the distant family live in Sicily, and when my client goes to visit later this year, he will be taking this painting along as a present. Pretty thoughtful and cool. I’ll post the color versions as they go along. jcannon1@bellsouth.net
