Here is the completed piece of the Courthouse on the Square in Franklin. Last Tuesday, I posted the underpainting; this is the finished piece. All the colors have been adjusted, and more details added. It’s still pretty loose, at least for me, but has a nice feeling. I had not done any small pieces in a while, and forgot that a really representational small piece takes almost as much time as a big piece. Need to remember that next time. I also got the Carnton piece done, and will post that tomorrow. Again, these are going to be at Wessex & Rye on Main Street in Franklin. jcannon1@bellsouth.net

Something new, finally. Sorry about the weird light. There was a lighting problem yesterday. This is the sketch for a new Franklin Square painting. This one is 24×30, and will be in a looser style when painted. I’ll get the underpainting done this afternoon. Sometimes these sketches are so nice I almost hate to cover them with paint. jcannon1@bellsouth.net

This has been a very busy week, with other things beside painting. So that is a long way of saying I don’t have any new pieces to post. Instead, here is a photo I took of the Nashville skyline from under the Shelby Street Pedestrian Bridge. I get out now and then and go on photo shoots for subjects, and this view caught my eye. I may paint this some day. Right now I am working on pieces of the square in Franklin, again from a photo shoot. More later. jcannon1@bellsouth.net

This is the second stage on that piece. As you can see, I have gone back and added a lot of color and loosened up the brushwork to give it a more immediate feel. It is really looking good now. I have to finish the foreground figures and adjust a few things here and there, and it’s done. Very happy with this one. Again, this is a commission piece, so keep that in mind. jcannon1@bellsouth.net

This is the second piece for the Franklin series. Clearly, it’s the Square. I was over there about 5:30 on a Friday evening. I was surprised how busy it was. Lots of folks out and about. The square is obviously a really important and central place for the town. I will most likely do several of the Square, since there are so many good looks to it. I’ll also do a bigger one for the grand opening at F&M Bank coming up. Nice to really get a good feel for where we are. jcannon1@bellsouth.net

This is the block in on the first of some new Franklin scenes. This is Carnton House, a Civil War scene. Again, it is the block in. I will be doing some small pieces for Wessex & Rye store in Downtown Franklin. I’ll post the one of the Square tomorrow, and, of course, will post them both when completed. jcannon1@bellsouth.net

Good Friday. I will be at the studio, though, if you are out and about. This is the last of the series, “Profusion No. 3.” Again, same color palette, but different pattern in the texture. The three together have enough similarities to be related, yet each stands on its own as well. The pieces are gallery wraped, and ready to hang. They are 24×36 each. Price is $600 for the set, or $225 each. Come out and see them at the Factory in Franklin. jcannon1@bellsouth.net

Here is the second piece in that series, “Profusion No. 2.” Same basic color pallete, but the texture structure is different. They are still related, as you’ll see with the last piece tomorrow. This one has a lot of swirling movement in the texture and color. Come by and see them. jcannon1@bellsouth.net

This is the first of a new three part series of abstract pieces I just did. “Profusion No. 1,” is the title on this one. The other two will be posted later this week. This one has a lot of texture, with color accentuating the textured parts. Very lively piece, yet more subtle than some of my other abstracts. The set is very nice together. Size is 24×36 on each of the three. jcannon1@bellsouth.net

Thought I would track the preparation of this piece for you. This is the underpainting for the Red Square piece. I posted the sketch last week, now this is the first color layer. I will now go back and start putting on the final colors and make it more impressionistic. Painting is like building a house: get a good foundation and you can do anything. More as it develops. jcannon1@bellsouth.net
