I did get to work on the canyon piece yesterday. Striving to get the rock feel, I wound up using several painting knives to get a lot of broken color effect. It has an interesting feel. I’m not sure about it yet, though. I’ll look at it this afternoon with fresh eyes and see what I think. This is just so different from the techinque I have been using. I may do another one of these in acrylic and see which I like better. jcannon1@bellsouth.net

I am still recovering from being gone to the show last weekend, at least time wise. I am also working on the large Grand Canyon piece, which is taking a while. So instead of a painting, I’ve got this photo I took yesterday during the snow. This is Connell Methodist in Goodlettsville. It was snowing pretty hard, and I thought this was a neat photo. I will paint it down the road. jcannon1@bellsouth.net

I had posted the semi-final version of this one before. This is the final of “The Clearing.” It is a tall piece, 18×36, and has an interesting look. I spruced up the light coming through the trees. The sky on this one is really nice as well. Come see it at the Factory in Franklin. jcannon1@bellsouth.net

This is a little piece that started out as a demonstration for my Franklin students. I was mostly doing the sky. Seems like a lot of people like my skies. So I was showing the technique, and developed this lettle piece. I find that in these, they are really skyscapes more so than landscapes. The land is really only there to “ground” the sky. I think that is what is so different about my “landscapes.” Anyway, the sky looks quite good in this one. This is a small square piece, 12×12, and is available. jcannon1@bellsouth.net

Went to Art in Bloom this weekend. We had a good crowd, especially Friday night. This is one of the walls I had down there. The Italian Street scene sold, so I need a new piece for the invitations to the March 7&8 open house at my studio. Anyway, it was a good show, lots of beautiful art work. I was honored to be there. Now, I have to get back to work and get ready for the Grand Opening. jcannon1@bellsouth.net

This is the first layer on a new commission piece I am doing of the Grand Canyon. This is for a client, to go over her fireplace. It’s 30×40 and will be gallery wrapped. So far, it is going well. I have a lot more work to do, but the basic look is there and should turn into a nice piece. Don’t forget the Art in Bloom show at the Bluegrass Country Club in Hendersonville. I’ll be there this evening and tomorrow. Come out and see the art. jcannon1@bellsouth.net

Thought I would remind you again about the Art in Bloom show this weekend. There will be a reception tomorrow night from 6:30 to 10, and there is a $40 dollar charge for that event. Should be some good food and libations, though. You can still attend, I am sure. On Saturday, the event runs from 10-4 and is free. There are several very good artists in the show this year, so it will be a lot of fun. The event is at Bluegrass Country Club in Hendersonville. Make plans to attend. Incidentally, “Across the River” from yesterday’s blog was going to be in the show, but it is already sold. I still have all these new flowers and other pieces for you, though, so come on out. jcannon1@bellsouth.net

Okay, here is the final on “Across the River.” I have had all kinds of folks stopping to ask about it, even when it wasn’t finished. I’m taking this one to Art in Bloom this weekend at the Bluegrass Country Club, and don’t expect to bring it back to the Factory. Hard to explain, but it has a really good feel to it. It’s 12×20 and has an antique silver frame. Price will be $500. Come by and see it today or tomorrow at the studio at the Factory in Franklin, or at Art in Bloom Saturday, 10-4. jcannon1@bellsouth.net

Here is the “Last Flower.” Mostly because this is the last flower I will do for the “Art in Bloom” show. This one is kind of interesting. Just a big close up. The photo doesn’t show the texture very well. The leaves have a good bit of texture in the grain. Makes for a very soft and interesting piece. This one will be at the Art in Bloom show at Bluegrass Country Club this weekend, so come out on Saturday, 10-4 and take it home. jcannon1@bellsouth.net

Another new flower for the “Art in Bloom” show. This one is “Tulips,” which seems pretty self explanatory. It’s a 16×20, acrylic on canvas. I have one more flower to show before this weekend’s show, and I’ll post that tomorrow. The pink flower I showed last week is no more: it just wasn’t working, so it’s gone. It’s kind of liberating to get rid of stuff that just doesn’t work. Anyway, “Tulips” does, so come to “Art in Bloom” at the Bluegrass Country Club this Saturday from 10-4 and see it. jcannon1@bellsouth.net
