This is actually an old piece called “Two Cherries.” It is an acrylic on illustration board, a technique I used for several pieces. I still prefer using canvas, but this has a clearly watercolor feel. The advantage is that it’s mounted in a regular frame, without glass. This is a 12×16, and you can see the frame. The piece had been down at the 417 Union restaruant, but is now back at the studio. The frame has a few nicks in it from being out there for a while, so I have it clearance priced at $150.00. Come by and see it. Also, there is an event tonight at the Factory from 6-9. If you are in Nashville or the surrounding area, come out for art, entertainment and light refreshments. jcannon1@bellsouth.net

This is a commission piece I started on yesterday. A very nice house, with some good architectural features. I spent quite a while getting the details right on the drawing. Now, all I have to do is paint it. I do commission work for whatever, so contact me. jcannon1@bellsouth.net

This is the finished version of one I showed you last week. It’s called “Misty Morning.” I added more mist and sharpened the trees. This one has a really good feel to it, and is a nice landscape. It’s a 16×20, and is framed in a nice dark wood to bring out the warm tones. Price is $295.00 plus tax. jcannon1@bellsouth.net

I showed this one in the earlier stages. Now it is done. I think it turned out pretty good. The sky is very warm, and makes a good contrast with the cool water. There is a pretty good bit of detail in the woods and hillsides that doesn’t show up too well in this photo. This is also an unusual size, 12×24. It is framed in a nice dark wood frame. Price is $275.00, plus tax. jcannon1@bellsouth.net

I got in a lot of work over the holiday. This is a new piece I did called “Memories.” I have put on the sketch and the finished piece. The light works really well in the finished piece. I got that translucenece that the shade really had. The sketch was pretty good, too. This is a 9×12, and it’s framed in a nice dark frame with a gold trim. Price is $195.00 plus tax. jcannon1@bellsouth.net

I took yesterday off for Thanksgiving. I truly am thankful for all that I have, and hope you are, too. This is a piece I started Wednesday. This is the first draft; I’ll refine it today. It is a little unusual in format: it’s 12×24 horizontal. I like the scene a lot, so I think this will be a good one when finished. You may have also noticed a change in my website. I am now hosting ads. Please visit my advertisers. They are art related sites and should have some interesting things for you. jcannon1@bellsouth.net

This is another new little landscape piece I worked on Monday. It has a good sky and a good feel to it. This is pretty much old school for me, since this is the kind of piece I used to do all the time. Was fun to crank out the old pallete of colors and do one of these. It’s pretty much complete, and is on sale for $150.00. jcannon1@bellsouth.net

This is a little piece I did yesterday. One of my students really likes to paint thick, and I thought it would be good to practice that technique again. I tried this in the past, and found that my fundamental method is thin glaze layers. Still, this makes a pretty cool effect. The buildup is not really showing in this photo like it does in life. The light comes down and picks up the petals very well. This piece is not quite done; I have a few more touches to do when it’s dry. It will be for sale at $150.00. jcannon1@bellsouth.net

Well, I finally finished this piece. I was pretty happy with the final version. Apparently, so was someone else since a lovely young couple bought it about an hour after I finished it and framed it. This was a very good experience for me. I am more willing to take the time now to do pieces that require detail and patience, and that is a good thing. Sometimes, we all rush through what we do, and while that is usually okay, it’s also good to really give the time necessary to do the best for whatever it is. jcannon1@bellsouth.net

This is another piece I did earlier this year. It’s called “Cream City.” There is an historic area in Cookeville, which is about 90 miles east of Nashville. This was the sign for an old ice cream company there. I thought it was a really cool relic. The railroad crossing sign needs to be in the painting, since the main rail depot is right across the street and is part of the historic section. This piece has been at 417 Union, but will be back at the studio in the next few days. Come by the Factory at Franklin to see it and the other works in my portfolio. jcannon1@bellsouth.net
