I thought I would show what these pieces look like finished off. I have them in nice frames, double matted. This is the kind of presentation I put on my pieces. Framing and presenation are, after all, a very important part of the art work. I’ll start showing the works in their frames periodically so that you get the full effect of the pieces. jcannon1@bellsouth.net

I went back and finished “Historic Edgefield Church.” There were some things I was not satisfied with, so I worked on it some yesterday and here is the finished piece. I also started another piece from Historic Edgefield. This house is actually right next to the church. I was amazed at the trim work and details in the house. Of course, I got into it pretty good and was amazed at how much work painting all that trim work is. Anyway, I got the skectch done, and a start on the underpainting. The left side of the house has more work done on it, and is close to being finished. I should have this done by the weekend, and I will post the final version then. In the meantime, you can buy this in advance. jcannon1@bellsouth.net
I have not written about the class at Studio G in Hendersonville. Kelly Goad, a very talented photographer, has a studio at 401 Walton Ferry Road in Hendersonville. As part of her studio, there is a wonderful class room for art. As you can see from the photos, there is a lot of room and a lot of light. We have class on Tuesday afternoon, from 1:30 to 4:30. The students do some warm up, then I do some demonstrations, and then we all work on individual pieces. Everyone has a lot of fun in this class. That’s one of the important parts of a class: have fun. That’s also an important part of art. For information about the classes, link to Studio G and contact Kelly Goad.

I thought I would show this piece today. There is a beautiful church down on Russell Street in Historic Edgefield that I just love. There are angels with trumpets at the corners of the towers, although that detail is hard to see at this scale. Anyway, at left is the sketch for the painting, at right is the painting itself. It’s acrylic on watercolor paper, 9×12 matted out size. I have a few more touches to do when it is fully dry, but otherwise, this is the finished product. Price is $95.00. jcannon1@bellsouth.net

This is a new piece I did over the weekend. I called it “Fruit Salad.” This is an acrylic on watercolor paper. I really like the watercolor look, and have worked with watercolors. However, I don’t yet have a good feel for them. Acrylics make for virtually the same look with more control, since they don’t lift off so easily. So this piece has a very soft, realistic look that I like. It is under glass and matted. Price is $95.00, plus tax and shipping, if applicable. jcannon1@bellsouth.net.

This is an “oldie,” but is one of the pieces at 417 Union, so I thought I would showcase it this morning. It’s called “Oyster Bay,” and is a 16×20 seascape. The colors are muted and earth toned. Go by 417 to see it, or contact me at jcannon1@bellsouth.net.

I thought instead of a painting that today I would show photos of the Gallery @ 417. 417 Union is a restaurant located at 417 Union Street in downtown Nashville. The space was Satsuma Tea Room for 66 years, until the owners retired. Now the space has been redone into a retrol 40’s decor restaurant with a cool, old time feel. Upstairs, there is a long hallway and two other large rooms with 14′ ceilings. These three spaces house three artists on a rotating basis. I curate the shows, and have my work in the hallway. This month Mike Battenberg and Melissa Myers have the other two rooms. We have installed spotlights and hanging wires to make this a cool gallery space for local artists. If you are in Nashville, come by 417 Union and check out the pieces. They are all for sale and priced, and the staff can assist in purchases.

This is another new landscape, again, the misty woods setting I so enjoy painting. This one shows good light and texture in the foreground. One of the techniques I like to use is to mix very soft, blended areas with impasto knife work to create different textures. So the trees are pretty soft and dreamy, and the foreground has a lot of texture. This is a small piece, 8X10, framed nicely for $125.00. Come see it at the Factory in Franklin, or contact me. jcannon1@bellsouth.net.

Finally, a new piece that is not one of those little ones. This is a new landscape in oil, called “Lone Tree.” This is kind of old school for me, because this is the kind of piece I painted for a long time. The woods are very misty and mystical, which is pretty much how I see nature. This one is 16×20, framed in a really nice crackle dark bronze frame. It is a little dark, and would need a place with good light, but shines when it is lit. Price is $295.00, plus tax and shipping, if applicable. You can see the piece at my studio gallery in the Factory at Franklin. My hours are 1-5, Monday and Wednesday, 1-6 Friday and Saturday. jcannon1@bellsouth.net.

Another small piece: “Stamen.” This is oil on canvas sheet under glass, 8×10. I am working on a big floral piece; it’s 30×48, and I should have that done and posted later in the week. In the meantime, you get these little ones. This one, too, is $30.00. Contact me. jcannon1@bellsouth.net.
