Franklin Landscape Scene
Tuesday February 9th, 2010
I have posted this one before, but it’s nice and I still have it. This is just a warm scene of haybales. It’s a 16×20, and is framed nicely. It would make a good piece for any room. Come by and see it or contact me. jcannon1@bellsouth.net
New Watercolor on Canvas Landscape in Progress
Monday February 8th, 2010
I don’t know what my fascination with watercolor effects is all about. Maybe that’s a good thing. Anyway, this is watercolor on canvas treated with absorbent ground, which makes the canvas act like watercolor paper. Sort of. So it gets the soft effects but can be worked a little more like canvas. Anyway, this is pretty much the first stage on this one. So we’ll see how this progresses as it goes along. jcannon1@bellsouth.net
Update on Untitled Abstract
Friday February 5th, 2010
Okay, so when I got a chance to look at this yesterday, it came to me how to add some excitement to the piece. It now has bright features that create a spinning pattern. That, a a few other touchups seem to have done the trick. Any ideas on the title? I have not gotten that yet, so input would be appreciated. jcannon12@bellsouth.net
New Untitled Abstract in Progress
Thursday February 4th, 2010
I had a lot of little things to do yesterday, but did get to work on this some. I had started the process a couple of weeks ago, but had not been able to work on it. This is not finished yet; there is something missing, although I have not had a vision of what that is yet. Still, it’s a bright and interesting start, so I’ll post more as this develops. jcannon1@bellsouth.net
“Transit” - Large Abstract Piece
Wednesday February 3rd, 2010
This piece is called “Transit.” It’s a big piece, 36×48, and very striking. I get a lot of comments on it. The idea is a little nebulous, just trying to convey the sense of energy moving rapidly over vast distances. What that energy is, you can decide. This is one that should have a home. Contact me for pricing and delivery. jcannon1@bellsouth.net
Final on the Sailboat Piece - I Think
Tuesday February 2nd, 2010
Due to various personal things, I only got an hour or so to work on something yesterday, so I redid the mountains on this piece. Now I like them, pretty much. They have a better color and more excitement. Now, except for correcting a few small things, it’s done. I think it’s pretty cool. Contact me about this one. jcannon1@bellsouth.net
Big Snow = No New Work
Monday February 1st, 2010
For those of you not from this area, we had a pretty heavy snow (for us) Friday and Saturday, so I did not get into the studio to work. Here’s a piece that I did last fall of irises and a fence line. This one is pretty nice and I still have it. It’s an 11×14, and framed nicely. Come by and see it when we finally melt out. jcannon1@bellsouth.net
Update on Regatta scene
Friday January 29th, 2010
I finally got a chance to work on this again. I had posted it in the early stages a few days back. Now it’s close to being done. I’m still not satisfied with the mountains, so there may be more tweaking on them before I sign it and call it done. The water and the boats are good, and the sky was always good, so that’s nice. A little more work before I say “done.” This one is a 24×36, so it’s a decent size. It will be for sale when finished, so stay tuned. jcannon1@bellsouth.net
Final on Acrylic Landscape
Thursday January 28th, 2010
You may recall I posted the first stage of this one a few days ago. I finally got the chance to go back and finish this. It turned out well, with lots of light and texture. There is still some of the soft background feel, and more detail in the foreground as well. The final finish is very glossy and textured. This technique is one I like and will do more. This one is a 12×16 and is ready to take home. Come see it. jcannon1@bellsouth.net
Portrait Class at Westhaven
Wednesday January 27th, 2010
We had a great time this Monday night and Tuesday morning doing portrait work with a live model at the Westhaven class. The students, who had never done a portrait before, got to work with a face model to develop a good drawing, then started putting paint on canvas for a color oil portrait. They really had a good time. Next week, we’ll work to get the portrait finished. I will probably put up some of their work as we get this finished. jcannon1@bellsouth.net
